Common Dishwasher Problems / Dishwasher Troubleshooting

Dishwasher Won’t Drain:

Remove the bottom dishwasher rack and check the filter in the middle of the bottom of the dishwasher. It can usually be unscrewed and removed and should be cleaned if lots of debris has collected. Also, check the garbage disposal for clogs. If the garbage disposal or the drain line is clogged, your dishwasher will not drain!

Dishes are still dirty after a complete cycle:

Sometimes the dishwasher itself just needs to be cleaned. Clean the inside of the dishwasher with a non-abrasive and non-toxic cleaning product; Vinegar or lemon is also a great substitute to store bought cleaning products. You can also pour some CLR in the soap dispenser and in the bottom of the dishwasher to remove calcium deposits from your dishwasher. Run the dishwasher through a complete cycle with the racks completely empty, and then run it through a quick rinse cycle. After the above is complete, load the dishwasher with dirty dishes and run a cycle to ensure the dishwasher is properly cleaning your dishes.

The dishwasher is leaking water:

The most common reason the dishwasher may leak water is that the seals around the door are either dirty or need to be replaced. Use a non-abrasive cleaning sponge or tool to remove old dried debris from the seals around the door. Check the seal and make sure there are no cracks or areas where the rubber is damaged or missing. These seals can be purchased online, but we recommend hiring an experienced dishwasher repair technician to install these seals.

The Dishwasher is not filling with water:

This is most commonly not a problem that a homeowner can diagnose and repair alone. However, you can check the water valve under your kitchen sink and make sure it is turned counter clockwise as far as it goes. Other than that, you should have one of Valley’s dishwasher service technicians take a look at it for you!

The Dishwasher detergent is still in the dispenser after a cycle:

Chances are good that if you fill the dishwasher soap/detergent dispenser with CLR and run it through one complete cycle and one rinse cycle, that it will fix this issue. If it does not, please call 480-649-0000 to schedule your appointment with one of our friendly appliance repair technicians. Most appointments are scheduled, services, and completed the same day!
